The old furnaces are reminiscent of the fact that they are of a different time – noisy ignition, inconsistent heat, and utility bills that never appear to decrease. The aim was not complicated but ambitious: to change the old system with a new, high-efficiency heat pump that provides silent, even comfort and prepares the home for the future.
The homeowner was interested in leaving an old-fashioned furnace and replacing it with a more efficient heating and cooling system. The comfort was important, but so were smart control, reduced operating costs, and improved utilization of the space in the home. Moving the system out of the basement to the attic created new opportunities, but it also presented difficulties.
The greatest challenge was the relocation itself. The old furnace was located in a basement mechanical room, and the new heat pump system had to be located in the attic. That implied a lot of thought in the location of equipment, airflow, condensate, and service access.
We began by taking out the old furnace and decommissioning the old system safely. Then we got the attic ready to receive the new Carrier Infinity System communicating heat pump system. This system was chosen specifically for the house in Belmont. This system features Captures & Kills® technology that traps 95% of air particles while remaining up to 50% quieter than leading competitors. With its Energy Star® 2022 rating, it ensures maximum efficiency and removes up to 400% more moisture for superior indoor comfort. Homeowners gain precise temperature control and long-term savings with a system that is easy to control from anywhere via smartphone. Once installed, we optimized the duct connections and calibrated the system to ensure smooth airflow and precise temperature control throughout the home.
The outcome was instant and observable. Rooms that once felt too cold reached a steady, balanced temperature. The system operates silently in the background and automatically regulates its output rather than banging on and off as the old furnace always did.
The Belmont project is an excellent illustration of how the replacement of an old furnace with a modern heat pump can transform the entire experience of a home. We provided comfort, efficiency, and smarter control in a single clean upgrade by moving the system to the attic and installing a high-efficiency communicating heat pump.
The homeowner will be able to enjoy reduced monthly energy bills, the high efficiency of the system, and the ability to operate on a variable basis. Less cycling and smarter temperature control also contribute to minimizing long-term wear, which saves on repair expenses in the future.
The new heat pump provided the homeowner with a dependable year-round comfort, reclaimed useful basement space, and greatly enhanced the energy performance of the home, without compromising usability or appearance.
Guidelines on the use/maintenance of heat pumps
To maintain the system in optimal operation, change air filters frequently and have a professional service once a year. The scheduling and smart capabilities of the communicating thermostat will be useful in maximizing comfort and keeping energy consumption under control. Attic access should also be kept clear to facilitate easy servicing when necessary.
